Sergio Mondragon is an interior designer, artist, stylist, philanthropist and collector of memories and objects. Born between the farmlands of Northern California and the design scenes of Mexico City, Mondragon started to craft his vision between both worlds, and found passion in creating spaces that are rooted in storytelling, cultural references, and unique untold experiences. Mondragon’s design career was rooted in philanthropy and nonprofit work where he learned that community, culture, and design mentorship was key to creating community much like his strong Mexican roots.A collector and world traveler, Mondragon has a 13-year career that serves as a design lead for the award-winning hospitality design firm, Avro KO and previously world-renowned design firm, Gensler. To date, his resume of projects includes large headquarters spaces for Adobe & Hyatt, luxury hotels for the Autograph Marriott & Hyatt brand, and Michelin Star restaurants for prolific Northern California chefs in Healdsburg and San Francisco. As an artist, Mondragon works with Paper-Mache, a technique he learned during his childhood, to create objects rooted in his Mexican culture.
During his Fog Fair inaugural sold out show with “And A Tangerine”, his vision of objects and childhood storytelling comes to life as objects that play with tools used as a designer with visions of his cultural perspective.Designer by day, philanthropist by evening and artist by night, Sergio’s love for creating transcends and becomes his personal style in a world he believes is better through the eye of design.Named as a One to Watch designer in 2023 by Boutique Hospitality Design and ASID, his design career is firmly rooted as a mover and shaker in his design community.
"IT’S THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF ANALYTICAL AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS, ALL IN ONE PERFECT DESIGN PACKAGE."
- Studio Mondragon
PART - ART STUDIO
PART - DESIGN STUDIO
PART - RETREAT
"I needed a space/platform that allowed me to think freely, just like the creative process, a space that had endless boundaries. Design is never linear and it always runs in multiple directions. Canoa’s platform allowed freedom and provided tools that helped shape those ideas all in one space. It’s the perfect combination of analytical and the creative process, all in one perfect design package.
Part of my collect, design, share challenge, I took on the task of creating a design for design studio, art studio and retreat. using many tools, I created mood boards, diagrams, plans and FF&E collections to communicate to my team the goal of the project. With Canoa, I was able to have an open dialog with my contractor, aka “dad”, as we zoomed in and out of the ideas, the thoughts and the process of my thinking."
